And the Award Goes To...

We are at the stage of our competition where possible awardees for individual awards are reviewed. PBA organizers disclosed that it has been very tough in some categories while obvious in others. Things that have been factored in are: game attendance; statistics; over all impact to team and of course the X factor.

 The Mythical Five and Defensive Five awards was an interesting one as some players would at times play two different positions. Most Improved Players was difficult as there are a lot of players like Joshua del Rosario from JR Panel or Restie Almoite from LM Money Transfer that had a great season but the rule is you must have played the year before, both players missed last year's season. We did not have that many rookies join us this year, so there are only 2 serious contenders in Rhaym Hipolito from JR Panel and Glenn Cayao from Dimond, coincidentally both play the point guard position.

Coach of the Year pits one coach who had a star studded line up who could have gone all the way, taking charge of new players in a team for the first time is no easy feat. While our other nominees is a coach that had to adjust and manage his roster with similar positions. Both Coach Tong and Coach John would be both worthy winners.

The MVP award nominees as expected came from the top 3 teams. If Dennis Lorenzo gets the award this will be his third time to win MVP honours, having won it back in 2008 and 2009. If Tupe Patriarca wins the award then he will be our second back to back MVP, as Patriarca won it last year. Ferdie Manuel who was our ROY winner last year is also a strong contender for the award.      

One thing was clear in the selection process, the organizers wanted everyone to have a fair go in being considered for the award. For sure all the awardees will say "Without their team they could not have won their award". Awarding ceremonies will be held before the finals game on Saturday the 15th of October 1:30pm. See you there!
